English mountaineering is the focus of the latest literary work by Italian journalist and writer Antonio Panei.
In the book titled “In cima a sé stessi”, recently published by the Rome-based publisher La Bussola, the stories of Joe Simpson, Alison Hargreaves, and Maurice Wilson are told.
The illustrations of these great British figures are by architect and graphic designer Veronica Cristofoletti.
The book specifically reconstructs the events of the legendary Derbyshire mountaineer Alison Hargreaves, who died on K2 in 1995; the incredible and disastrous adventure of Maurice Wilson on Everest in 1934; and Joe Simpson’s fight for survival on Siula Grande in 1985.
Writer Antonio Panei is the grandson of Italian mountaineer Gigi Panei. In addition to the stories of the most important english mountaineers, the book also recounts the adventures of Walter Bonatti, Reinhold Messner and Riccardo Cassin.
